Universities Overview

The UK China Graduate Work Experience Programme will see 200 Chinese graduates, placed in full-time employment with UK organisations for between 14 and 50 weeks.

To help prepare the graduates for their stay in the UK and to make sure that they are supported throughout their internship, we are looking at selecting around six higher education institutions to be involved in the project, to provide orientation training and pastoral care.

Selected institutions will be asked to run a two-week orientation programme for the newly-arrived graduates in preparation for their internship roles. The orientation programme, jointly designed with Hobsons to ensure consistency between institutions, will cover topics including:

• Understanding cultural attitudes and behaviours.
• Developing an understanding of the UK and the world of work.
• Developing key ‘living’ skills to gain the maximum experience from the UK placement.
• Developing business language skills – both verbal and written.
• Introduction to the Global Management Challenge business game as a pre-cursor to graduates undertaking the game during their internship.

The institutions’ role will also include assisting graduates with finding accommodation, allowing graduates access to institutions’ networks for international students, and pastoral support and mentoring for the duration of the graduates’ stay in the UK.

This is an opportunity for UK institutions to raise their profile, both in the UK and in China, through participation in this international programme, and for them to develop and build upon current links with China.
