Will the programme be reciprocal?

It is intended that in the longer term, the programme will include a reciprocal element, with UK graduates being given the chance to experience working and living in China.

What costs are involved in employing a graduate?

Employers are expected to pay the Chinese graduates as they would pay a UK graduate intern; a suitable living wage, commensurate with the responsibilities of the job.

Can we hire graduates post UK-placement?

This is dependent entirely on the business and the individual to make the decision to offer opportunities in their UK or China operations.

Which universities will be involved?

So far, the following universities have been involved in the Programme: Brunel University, Coventry University and Middlesex University.

What will graduates' levels of previous experience be?

Candidates will most likely have just completed their degrees or masters programmes. It is expected that their levels of previous work experience will vary from person to person, as with any group of graduates. Employers with specific requirements for work experience should specify this at the
time of vacancy identification.

How can we find out more about immigration?

Employers will be need to be aware of the immigration requirements to hire an intern permanently. The interns are required to return to China as a condition of their visa, and they must do so even if planning on returning to the UK. The UK government has recently introduced a points based immigration system. To find out more about the new requirements please review this document. The relevant pages are pages 19-28.

What stage in their studies are the candidates at?

All candidates will be in the process of finishing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. The majority of interns will be half way through a postgraduate degree, however they will not have study commitments while in the UK. All candidates will be required to return to China upon the completion of the programme to finish their studies.
