Frances is working for GTI in our London office in Farringdon. Although based in London it hasn't stopped her from travelling outside of the capital.
Although we are from different cities in China and we don’t work in the same city in the UK, our “siblings” seem to settle down everywhere in the UK. Being thousands of miles away from our motherland, interns form a big China GWEP family in the UK. Everyone is ready to lend a hand to the others.
Interns like me, who are going to stay in London for half a year, will grasp every free minute to travel around. Hence, I wanted to spend the first weekend somewhere near London. This is the first time that I planned myself a trip in an unfamiliar city. How to make it pleasant and enjoyable is the biggest challenge for me. Due to the limited time for preparation, I doubt if it would be a haste to visit outside during the first weekend; if I had a good budget for the trip.
Luckily, there are two interns, Wheeler Ma and Caili Ma, whom we jokingly call “Mr Ma” and “Mrs Ma”, working in Warwick. They warmly welcome us to visit their beautiful apartment, the gorgeous St. Mary Church and the mysterious WarwickCastle. Considering our hesitations, they helped us to form the trip by introducing the online coach reservation, picking us up at the coach station, showing us around the town.
The 24-hour visit left me a good impression of Warwick, which is totally different from the cosmopolitan London. The town pace is much slower and there are not a large number of tourists walking on the street. The quiet atmosphere brings you a peaceful and relaxing feeling. The mysterious medieval castle even brings us back to the lovely childhood with all those interesting and horrible facilities.
On our way back to London, I talked with another intern, “London doesn’t simply equal to the UK. Travelling around really broadens my horizon and brings a deeper understanding of this country. I will keep on travelling around every weekend to explore more about this country.”
Great thanks to “Mr and Mrs Ma” for taking care of our stay in Warwick, a dreamland for home.
