Eric Zhao - AC Nielsen BASES
Eric Zhao is an intern at AC Nielson BASES, and has found taking part in the UK-China Work Experience Programme both challenging and exciting
'I am an intern at AC Nielsen BASES, and have been in the UK since November 2007. Taking part in the UK-China Graduate Work Experience Programme is different from coming just to study in the UK. An internship with a UK employer has so many advantages.
Firstly, you're not alone; you arrive in the UK as part of a group of Chinese interns, and take part in the orientation programme together. The friendships between these students is invaluable while you're in the UK - and also later in your life.
With a good salary and 25 days annual leave, there are many opportunities for travelling around Europe. You can ski on Mont Blanc, swim at Brighton beach, watch a Spanish bullfight, walk along the Champs-Elysees and be romantic around the Aegean! How could you ask for more?
Also, if you can prove your ability at a top global company in the UK, you can work anywhere!
It is really exciting and challenging to begin a brand new life in a new country. Apart from the every-day differences between the UK and China, I believe the biggest change has been the transition from study to work.
The only thing I don’t like about the UK is the tax. Every month I say good bye to a quarter of my payment!’
