FAQs - general information
What is the Programme?
The UK-China Graduate Work Experience Programme is a joint initiative established by the UK and Chinese Governments to give graduates the chance to experience living and working in the UK.
The Graduate Work Experience Programme aims to give Chinese graduates a greater understanding of UK culture, people, society and way of life.
What type of internships do you offer?
Details of current internship opportunities are available here
Who is eligible for the programme?
To be eligible for the UK-China Graduate Work Experience Programme you must:
- be a Chinese citizen
- be studying at a Chinese university (preferably for a postgraduate qualification)
- be aged between 21 and 30 years old
- have a minimum TOEFL score of 90 (internet-based test), or IELTS 6.5 (depending on the vacancy requirement this may be higher).
How much would I get paid?
Salaries for the internships vary. Please see Placements for salaries of specific roles. All salaries will be enough to cover living costs with a bit left over to enjoy your stay in the United Kingdom.
When does the programme start and finish?
The next intake of interns will arrive in the UK in April 2009.
An orientation programme will run throughout April and interns will begin work towards the end of the month.
The internships vary in length from 12 to 50 weeks (plus a two-week orientation period) so the finish date for the Programme will depend on how long the internship is for. Details of the length of specific opportunities are available at Placements.
What training will I get on the programme?
Interns’ first two weeks in the UK, prior to beginning work, will be spent at an orientation programme, run by one of our university partners. The orientation programme will help interns develop an understanding of UK culture and life, and the business environment they will be operating in. The orientation programme includes cultural activities and visits to some places of interest in the UK.
Following the orientation programme, your employer will provide you with work-based training appropriate to your role so you can make a good start to your internship.
Can I stay in the UK after I'd finished my internship?
No, interns' visas will be for the period of their internship and they will have to leave the UK before their visas expire.
