The UK China Graduate Work Experience Programme offers Chinese graduates the opportunity to take part in work placements with companies in the UK.
In April 2006, the UK and Chinese Governments agreed to establish a joint initiative aimed at giving their young university graduates up to one year’s experience of working and living in each other’s country. Following a pilot scheme in 2006, the Department for Education and Skills (now the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills) and the Chinese Ministry of Education have agreed to the continuation of the UK China Graduate Work Experience Programme.
Currently the programme provides paid work placements for up to 200 Chinese graduates with UK companies for up to 50 weeks. In its second phase, it is hoped to extend the programme to UK graduates being given the chance to experience working and living in China.
The Graduate Work Experience Programme aims to give graduates a greater understanding of each others’ countries, cultures, people, societies and ways of life. It also aims to create an enduring bond between the UK and China, with future mutual economic benefit when these graduates become tomorrow's business leaders.
